Behind me I heard a door opening, and I was lowered into the softest leather I’d ever felt. The door to the low-slung sports car had risen vertically, and the man slammed it down. My shock and confusion were blunted by the immense wealth surrounding me. I’d never cared much for expensive things, but this vehicle had me almost speechless.

“This is unbelievable,” I said when the man descended into the driver’s seat. I was fascinated by the glinting metal dashboard, the mahogany console, and crushed cream velvet carpeting. “What the hell kind of car is this?”
