This story had me hooked from the first page until the last. The writing is captivating and had me turning the pages in record time. It was fun, sad, sexy, heartbreaking, thrilling, and uplifting. It all started very sadly with the death of Brett’s sister, Celia, and her fiancé, Clive. He has known Rylan, Celia’s ice dance partner, from a young age, but now he sees more than the little boy who has always been by Celia’s side. What follows is a beautiful journey of two men grieving in their own way and finding solace and love in each other’s arms. The author did a wonderful job bringing the characters to life. I could feel their connection and love shining through. Brett introduces Rylan to his BDSM lifestyle, and that as well felt natural. They were made for each other. Rylan has always been in control on the ice, but now he is adrift. Submitting to Brett and letting go is what he needs to heal and feel himself again. Brett loves nothing more than keeping Rylan on the edge and taking
3-3.5 stars This was my first time reading this author, and it won’t be the last. I really enjoyed the author’s style, it was very easy to read. I loved the MCs, Brett and Rylan were both great characters and their chemistry was amazing. The D/s aspect worked so well for me, and was really hot. Nothing extreme, some impact play. There were certain aspects about them that left we scratching my head asking, “Why?”. Brett’s sleeping in the bed issue for example, but they were relatively minor. But overall their relationship was really well done, with realistic conflicts. Being primarily a thriller/mystery reader, I’m probably way harsher on this than I should be for a romance...but the mystery in this did not work for me at all. The whole thing felt implausible and illogical (which is entirely possible for murderers) but it just didn’t feel right. The motivation was odd to me, the actions and reasonings felt overblown. It was a bit predictable (which is ok for me as long as the
Initially I wasn’t really happy about Brett’s reaction to his sister’s death. I mean he seemed to focus more on Rylan and the lifestyle rather than mourne and elaborate the loss. But slowly through the development of their relationship and their very private investigation on Celia’s death, I grew more and more affectionate to Brett. The BDSM aspect of the story is pretty light, and the descriptions are not very detailed, so if you do not enjoy books centered on BDSM relationships you should be fine with this story. Rylan is a very strong character and his connection to Brett just eases the stress deriving from his very demanding profession. I really liked the fact that the author dedicated time and pages to the aftermath of the second tragedy and its impact on Rylan and Brett as individuals and as a couple. These were the Chapters where their connection was the closest and the writing was at its best.
