Arthur Watson is a sessional English instructor at Hudson College, and he barely has his foot in the door. He’s nothing at all like handsome and charismatic Matthew Parker, the star instructor of the department. That doesn’t stop Arthur from having an unfortunate crush on Matt, even if it’s unlikely Matt even notices him.

That changes when it’s time for Arthur’s teaching assessment. Arthur is already worried about not being good enough, but now he has to teach in front of the hottest instructor in the department? But as it turns out, maybe Matthew Parker noticed him after all.

Arthur had been right to dread Monday, because as soon as he stepped through the door to his classroom, he noticed two things. First, Matt was there, sitting in the back row and getting ogled by some of the students in his class. Second, Grant was not there.

Matt waved him over, and Arthur had no choice but to comply.

“Grant has a stomach bug,” said Matt when Arthur stood in front of him. “It’s just me and you today.”

“Oh,” said Arthur, feeling his pulse skyrocket. “Ah, I’ll just start then.”

Arthur went to the front of the class and the students all looked at him curiously. Arthur cleared his throat.

“Good morning, everyone,” said Arthur, adjusting his collar. “You might have noticed that we have a guest today.”

Everyone swivelled in their seats to stare at Matt. Matt simply grinned and waved, seemingly unperturbed by the attention. No doubt because he was used to it.

“He’s going to be evaluating my teaching today,” said Arthur.

With that, Arthur began his lesson. Strangely enough, Matt seemed happy to interact with the class as well, and soon everyone was at ease with his presence, including Arthur. It didn’t even seem like Matt was there to evaluate him. It seemed like he was just there to attend class.

After the class ended, Matt stood and stretched. Arthur’s mouth watered as he watched Matt’s shoulders flex. He mentally slapped himself and got his focus back on being professional. By the time Matt looked up, Arthur was busying himself with clearing up his materials.

“Let me get you a coffee and we can talk,” Matt said.

“A coffee?” Arthur asked in surprise, hands pausing midway through the motions.

“Yeah,” said Matt, smiling. “I’d like to talk to you a bit.”

“Oh,” said Arthur. “Sure.”

The two of them left the class and went down the hallway towards the cafeteria. Arthur felt too big for his body as he walked alongside Matt. He awkwardly waited for Matt to say something, but Matt seemed content with silence.

There was no line for the cafeteria, thankfully.

When Arthur reached for his wallet, Matt said, “I’ll get it.”

“Oh, thank you,” Arthur said, putting his wallet away again.

Freshly supplied with coffee, Matt beckoned for Arthur to follow him.
