Of Autumn Leaves and New Beginnings
A very sweet novella.
I like all kinds of romance stories and I'll read nearly anything – any heat level. Nell Iris is my favorite when it comes to writing MM short stories. Of Autumn Leaves and New Beginnings is longer, at 17,000 words it's really a novella, but just like her short stories, she tells a complete story in an efficient amount of words. It's a wonderful and sweet story.
Both of the MCs in this story are in their 40's and I love reading books about older couples finding love; romance isn't just for the young! Oren has never had a serious relationship and Pete is divorced from his wife of twenty years. Neither of them is looking for love but it finds them anyway. Their relationship builds slowly as they move from friends to lovers. There is no on-page sexy time but please don't let that deter you from reading this story.
The book is a quick one to read and it left me with very warm feelings. Epilogues are often my favorite part of a book and the one that Nell has written for this story is very poignant. It lets us see how Oren and Pete are doing several years down the road and it was perfect!
An advanced copy of this book was provided to me but my review was voluntary and not influenced by the author.
