Kathleen Murphey
Kathleen Murphey is an Associate Professor in the English Department at Community College of Philadelphia and has a PhD in American Civilization from the University of Pennsylvania. She has published poetry and short stories, mainly fairy tale retellings, through The Voices Project, Writing in a Woman’s Voice, and Pennsylvania Literary Journal, among other platforms. Her collection of fairy tale retellings, Other Tales, is available through Amazon.
She turned her short story, P Pan and Beyondland,” into a play, which was performed as part of the 2018 Philadelphia Fringe Festival. P Pan and Beyondland is the retelling of the Peter Pan story with LGBTQ+ identifying characters.
She is also a subversive knitting artist. Her piece, To Herself: Knitting, Poetry, Protest, was on display at Philadelphia’s City Hall as part of its “Crafting Narratives” exhibition (September 30–December 31, 2019). The knitted blanket was made up for 32 panels, each with the knitted title of a poem.
