Heat Wave: Manheim
I loved the setting of this book, the Pennsylvania Renaissance Faire, where there are good and evil knights who stay in character even when they insult dense ex-boyfriends. I'd love to stroll around on the Faire grounds, watch the knights joust, and buy a flower that will never die from Wes.
I loved the camaraderie between the cast, and the way Wes and Carlo hit it off feels authentic. Usually, I'm not a fan of a character running hot and cold like Wes tends to do, but considering the circumstances he's in, I find his behavior believable and understandable.
Would I have loved to see more of the romance between Wes and Carlo? Yes, absolutely. But this was a lovely promise of future and sometimes that's all I need. Especially when the setting is so great... and Wes comparing himself to Benedick from my all time favorite Shakespeare play Much Ado About Nothing does NOT make matters worse :-)
"He reminded himself of Benedick from Much Ado About Nothing, who swore up and down he would be a bachelor forever, until his friends tricked him into a relationship."
This was a new-to-me author, but I will definitely be checking out more of her work.
