Tuesday evening just after five, Jacob’s doorbell rang. He’d just opened his fridge to try and decide what to have for dinner. Closing it with a frown, he patted barefoot out to the front door. He hadn’t been expecting anyone. In fact, except for his initial call to Jackson, Jacob hadn’t had any contact with the outside world for days.

He stood a little on his toes to look out the peephole on his front door.

Walt. Fuck.

“Open the door, Jacob, I know you’re home.”

His heart pounding, Jacob twisted the dead bolt and then turned the doorknob. “Walt, I may be contagious --”

“Don’t even try that bullshit on me, Butler.”

Walt pushed him out of the way and he stormed into the house. Well, that’s what it seemed like to Jacob. He found himself slammed against the wall opposite the door with Walt’s face just mere inches from his.

Swallowing hard, he tried again, “Walt, what is --”

“I thought I’d give you a couple of days to chill after the other night, but this is shit. You want to get mad at me, get mad, but don’t take it out on the firm.” His dark eyes fuming, Walt glared at him.

Jacob shook his head in confusion. “Mad at you? Why would I be mad at you?”

“I don’t know. I just figured you were because you kissed me when you were drunk and then ran like your ass was on fire.”

“I don’t know where you get your fucked up ideas. I’m not mad at you, I was humiliated.”

“Why? Cause you kissed a guy?” Walt shrugged. “You were wasted.”

“Not because I kissed a guy,” Jacob said carefully. “I’ve kissed guys before. Because I kissed you.”

Now it was Walt’s turn to look confused. “What?”

He was too aware that Walt still had him basically pinned to the wall, standing completely within his personal space. He had an urge to put his hands on Walt’s chest, just to push him away, of course.

“I kissed you. Not just anyone. And it was like kissing a goddamn statue. You were clearly repulsed.”

“I was surprised.”

Jacob snorted. “Yeah and repulsed. Well, I guess it’s true I haven’t been telling you the truth.”

“The truth?”

He nodded. “I’m gay. I didn’t just kiss you because I lost my mind from too much bourbon and I thought you were a woman, Walt. I knew exactly who I was kissing. Who I’ve wanted to kiss for I can’t even say how long. Maybe the alcohol gave me the courage to act, but it wasn’t the reason.”

“Jacob.”

“And then when you, well, when you reacted the way you did, I realized I’d made the biggest idiot out of myself ever.” Jacob couldn’t quite meet Walt’s eyes. “I haven’t been able to face you since. So, you’re right. I did let the firm down for the last couple of days, but I was probably going back to work tomorrow.”

Walt no longer looked as angry as he had when he’d first arrived, but he still looked irritated. “You really are clueless.”

“What?”

“I was not repulsed. I know you have mirrors, Jacob, and you have to know you are a good looking guy.”

“But I am a guy,” Jacob pointed out.

“No kidding.” Walt cupped Jacob’s crotch. “I guess you are.”
